Mozilla Co-Founder Resigns

Mozilla Co-Founder Resigns

(Mountain View, CA) -- Mozilla's co-founder and newly-named CEO Brendan Eich is out.

Eich resigned following a firestorm of criticism over his support for California's anti-gay marriage law Proposition 8. Eich's decision to step down came after Mozilla Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker said Eich's ability to lead had been badly damaged by the controversy. The company responsible for the Firefox web browser confirmed the move in a blog post.

Earlier this week, the dating site OKCupid posted a video saying because Eich is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples, they'd prefer that their users not access the site through Mozilla's Firefox web browser. Some Mozilla staffers had also protested Eich's promotion to CEO through Twitter.
