SCOTUS Sides with Broadcasters on Aereo
Posted Wednesday, June 25th 2014 @ 4pm

From The Walt Disney Company to Univision, broadcasters far and wide are rejoicing over the Supreme Court's ruling against Aereo.

The high court ruling effectively ends Aereo's practice of retransmitting television broadcast signals to subscribers through tiny antennas, and networks are already seeing gains.  Following Wednesday's ruling CBS, ABC, Fox and NBC saw a slight uptick in stock prices around the same time Aereo's chief investor Barry Diller told CNBC that the company "is over now."

The Supreme Court agreed with the broadcasters who sued Aereo for copyright violations, accusing the Internet streaming service of retransmitting signals without paying fees.

Disney, 21st Century Fox and Univision are calling the ruling a major victory for consumers and content creators.
