Tinder's "Year in Swipe 2023" Reveals The Year's Dating Trends

With the new year just weeks away, Tinder has just released their 2023 Year in Swipe. It’s a recap of the dating app’s most popular trends over the last year, along with some data that could help boost singles’ chances in 2024.

These are some of the highlights from Tinder’s Year in Swipe:

  • In 2023, a lot of singles had a laid-back approach to dating and were more likely to embrace “main character energy.”
  • Many have shifted their focus from “happily ever after” to go with the flow and “date for the plot” instead. Tinder calls this dating style “N.A.O.T.” or “Not Attached To Outcome.”
  • About a quarter (27%) of users 18 to 25 who engaged with Tinder’s “Relationship Type” feature said they’re “open to exploring,” while 22% of those using the “Relationship Goals” feature noted they’re “still figuring it out.”
  • Tinder shares the most valuable “currency” on the app is time, as 51% of young users say they’d like to optimize their dating style to fit with their busy schedules.
  • The most attractive interest on Tinder profiles around the world is Otaku - or being a big fan of anime or manga. Cheerleading is second, followed by pilates.
  • The most used emoji used on the app this year was the Always On emoji (it’s the word “on” with a sideways arrow.
  • Relationship goals is the most popular info in Tinder profiles, followed by zodiac, height, pets and smoking habits.
  • Around the world, the top trending interest listed on Tinder profiles in 2023 is “horror” movies, followed by “hip hop,” and “tennis.”
  • Countries who reply the fastest are Korea, Singapore, the U.K., Germany and the U.S. As for cities with the quickest response rates, two U.S. cities make the top five - Chicago is second and Los Angeles is fifth.
