Warm up those vocal cords, because over 1,000 theaters around the world will begin defying gravity in a new way on Christmas Day as Wicked sing-along screenings begin.
The movie, which stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, has been shattering box office records since its November 22nd release, already becoming the highest-grossing adaptation of a Broadway musical in film history. The additional screenings, the first to officially be marked as friendly for audience participation, will feature the lyrics projected on-screen, karaoke style. These showings will also include a special video introduction from Erivo and Grande.
Meanwhile, for those who would prefer to leave the vocals to the award-winning professionals, standard screenings of Wicked will continue to be available.
“The overwhelming response to Wicked has been remarkable,” said Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal. “These sing-along screenings offer fans a unique opportunity to become part of the story they’ve embraced so enthusiastically.”
Wicked officially entered the awards season conversation with a strong showing of nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes; Erivo was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Grande was nominated for supporting, and the film earned nods for Best Musical or Comedy and Box Office Achievement.
