It’s no secret that Americans love pizza, and new research uncovers just how much of it we eat every year. Pizza Hut has just released their Pizza Trends Report, revealing the eating habits, preferences and passion people have for pizza.
According to the report, which is based on a survey of 5-thousand U.S. adults:
- The average American eats 288 slices of pizza a year, which comes out to more than 95-billion - with a B - slices eaten by people across the country in a year. That’s enough to fill 240-thousand Olympic-sized swimming pools!
- And this year, 32% predict they’ll eat even more pizza than they did in 2024.
- Do you dip your slices? Another 58% do, at least sometimes, and ranch is the most popular sauce for dipping pizza (38%), followed by garlic sauce (27%), marinara (23%), blue cheese dressing (8%) and buffalo sauce (8%).
- As for the debate on the best way to eat a slice of pizza, nearly half say the correct way is “tip first,” not folded.
- And eating pizza with a fork is a food crime, according to 44% of respondents.
- No oven? No problem, as 57% say they like eating cold pizza leftovers.
- Friday is the most popular day to have pizza (43%), followed by Saturday (23%) and Wednesday (11%).
- Thin crust is the most popular, (29%), with stuffed crust coming in second (24%), then hand-tossed crust (23%).
- As for pizza styles, New York is the favorite of 29%, while 22% prefer Chicago Deep Dish, 8% like Sicilian style and 4% say Detroit style is the best.
- Trendy toppings for pizza include mushrooms (57%), garlic (41%), pineapple (38%), anchovies (8%), pickles (8%), and believe it or not, cherries (2%).
- Some people love pizza so much, they’d be willing to trade some valuable things to get it for free. This includes 28% who say they’d happily give up alcohol for a year if they could have free pizza every day, as well as 18% who would swap social media for a year, 20% who would give up coffee and 14% who’d trade sweets for daily free pizza.
