Study: States Most Likely To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse

Think you could survive a zombie apocalypse? It may all depend on where you are when it happens. While we’ve all watched people try to escape the undead in shows and movies, have you ever thought about where you’d have the best chance of making it if it happened to you? According to a new study, some states are more prepared for the undead rising from their graves than others.

  • A team from the gambling site CanadaCasino dug up the answers by “scientifically” evaluating each state’s levels of zombie preparedness based on six metrics: population density, percentage of water area, number of community hospitals, number of airports, number of fishing, hunting and trapping stores, and the number of military bases.
  • Each of these was calculated per 100-thousand people, and each state was given an apocalypse readiness score.
  • So, where do you want to be if the zombies come calling? Definitely not in New Jersey, which was ranked the least prepared state, mostly because it has the highest population density in the country.
  • But it also has just 0.9 airports, 2.2 hunting stores and 0.8 hospitals per 100-thousand people.
  • Alaska tops the list as the best state to hunker down in to battle the undead. Their super low population density - just one person per square mile - is a big advantage in avoiding infection, according to researchers.
  • Alaska also has the highest number of airports with 78.5 per 100-thousand, a strong military presence and plenty of freshwater.
