Jonas Brothers Rep New Jersey (And Bruce Springsteen) During 2019 MTV VMAs

Similar to their performance of "Lovebug" at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, the Jonas Brothers left the building and took to Asbury Park, New Jersey for a sparkling medley of "Sucker" and "Only Human" at this year's ceremony, which took place on Monday (August 26).

To celebrate their Wyckoff, New Jersey roots and coincide with the show's booking at Newark's Prudential Center, the comeback kicks trekked out to the Stone Pony at the Asbury Park waterfront for their latest award show performance. While Joe rocked an all-denim ensemble, which paid tribute to Bruce Springsteen, his singing siblings went for subtle nods to the Boss Man as they offered up an energetic rendition of "Sucker" inside of the intimate venue. It wasn't long before the three took a stroll outside of the venue and onto an outdoor beachside stage. Cue the intro to their latest single, "Only Human," where they passed some appropriately placed Toyoyas to get to their second stage for "Only Human" and fireworks for the finale.

Over the weekend, Asbury Park Press reported on the number and it seemed as if everyone, including city officials, authorities and fans, were happy with the intent and execution of the performance. "Kudos to our police and fire departments for keeping everything running smoothly," Asbury Park Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn told the outlet. "We've come a long way. Now, we're a town that's being showcased on a national level."

In addition to the JoBros' performance, MTV made sure to run with the New Jersey theme by inviting the cast of The Sopranos onstage for an onstage reunion and booking some of the finest names in NJ hip-hop for a closing performance. Among the performers include Fetty Wap, Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman, and Wyclef Jean. This marks the first time that the show has been held in the state in 36 years.
