Selena Gomez Teases Unreleased Song 'Boyfriend' From New Album 'Rare'

Premiere Of Universal Pictures' "Dolittle" - Arrivals

Selena Gomez just dropped some surprising details about her new album.

During Monday’s appearance (January 13) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gomez revealed she recorded a never-before-heard track on her latest record, Rare, that’s she’s planning to release soon. What’s more, fans are speculating the unreleased song, titled “Boyfriend,” is more or less of a hint that the pop star has a new man in her life.

“There's a few other songs that I couldn't help but want to exist, so I can't really tell when,” Gomez said, “but one of my favorite tracks is called ‘Boyfriend,’ so I can't wait for people to hear that one.”

Although Gomez didn’t go much more into detail about the record or when she intends to release it, fans will recall this isn’t the first time she’s dropped a hint about the unreleased song. In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, one of the “Lose You to Love Me” star’s collaborators on Rare, singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, dished on writing a song with Gomez and fellow singer-songwriter Justin Tranter that didn’t make the final cut, called “I Want a Boyfriend.”

While writing Rare, Michaels revealed one day she asked Gomez, “What kind of mood are you?’” In a text, the musician replied, “I’m feeling strong and happy. … I really just want a boyfriend.” What came from the exchange was a track called “I Want a Boyfriend,” of which Tranter dished: “One of the lyrics is about a fine line between a want and a need. Yes, she wants a boyfriend, but it’s not a need. She’s OK on her own, and we all should be too.”

In a video interview with the publication, Gomez said the song was her favorite she’s ever written. She also revealed the track is about love and hardship and vulnerability. "That’s kind of what I want right now," she added. "I’ve been single for two years. It’s maybe nice.”
