Wondering how to cook wisely during this time of quarantine and #saferathome distancing? Food Network chef Tyler Florence shared with Ryan Seacrest on-air on Wednesday, March 25, the best way to be cooking during Coronavirus.
Florence warns against making and freezing entire dishes of pasta and rice because they will dry out once reheated due to the carbohydrates absorbing the liquid. Instead, Florence says to focus on making and freezing portions of proteins and vegetables.
“My recommendation is to make everything in batches,” Tyler shared, recommending people cook up protein like ground turkey with onion, garlic, thyme, salt, pepper and olive oil.
You can then freeze the ground turkey in Ziplock bags individually and pull it out when you want to make certain items like tacos, spaghetti, etc. And you can do the same with vegetables. For example, Tyler recommends freezing sautéed spinach or squash and cauliflower.
“Pull these things out and you can play this mix-match game with everything you have and always have something fresh and new and interesting to be making,” he added. “That would be my base level advice is prep individual items and freeze those and pull them out as you need them."
