National Voter Registration Day

Sept. 22, 2020 is National Voter Registration Day

Clerk’s Office To Register Voters in Bernalillo County

Bernalillo County – On Sept. 22, 2020, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive cross-country effort to register voters well in advance of Election Day this November. With a historic presidential election approaching, every eligible American voter should exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box, and National Voter Registration Day is the right day to start by getting registered. This is why communities across the country are planning to use National Voter Registration Day to increase voter participation.

Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover is among the thousands of election officials across the country to celebrate National Voter Registration Day, a civic holiday that aims to help all eligible voters participate in our democracy. The nonpartisan day of action will involve coordinated field, technology, and media efforts to register voters and raise awareness of state-specific registration policies, deadlines, and voting information.

National Voter Registration Day is all about encouraging voter registration, raising awareness of voter registration options, and we’re also recruiting election board members,” says Clerk Linda Stover. “Voter Registration agents and members of my staff will be present in person at 4 voting convenience centers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll all be masked up and social distancing and will require the same of you. Please motivate yourself, your unregistered friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, church and community members and together we’ll get you or them registered.

National Voter Registration Day is an opportunity for partner organizations across the country to get involved civically for the good of our shared democracy, and to help make up for the millions of registrations that were lost earlier this year due to COVID-19” said Brian Miller, executive director of the collaborative National Voter Registration Day effort. “While events across the country might look a bit different this year due to the pandemic, we are honored to support the work of thousands of partners that are planning to celebrate the holiday this year in whatever way works best in their communities.”

Voter Registration Agents and Bureau of Elections staff will register voters and share information about working as election board members on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

Bernalillo County’s National Voter Registration Day activities are being conducted in compliance with the N.M. Public Health Emergency Order to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19. Social distancing, hand hygiene and cleanliness protocols shall be followed by staff and Voter Registration Agents and everyone will be required to wear a mask or face covering.

National Voter Registration Day is held on the fourth Tuesday of every September. Since 2012, nearly 3 million voters have registered on the holiday. The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).
