A lot of teenagers count down the days until they finally reach a long-awaited rite of passage - getting their driver’s license. While they can’t wait to get behind the wheel, their parents worry about the dangers on the road, as well as the expense of having a young driver in the house. But it turns out, some places in the country are better equipped for teen drivers and a new report reveals which ones those are, as well as those that could do better.
- WalletHub’s annual list of the Best and Worst States for Teen Drivers has just come out.
- They compared all 50 states on 23 key metrics in three main categories: Safety, Economic Environment and Driving Laws.
- States were rated on everything from the number of teen driver fatalities to the average cost of car repairs to the quality of roads and the share of teens texting while driving.
- New York tops the list as the Best State for Teen Drivers, landing at number one for safety and second for driving laws. But it can be pricey and comes in 24th for economic environment.
- Michigan 28th overall, is first for economic impact, while Oregon, second overall, is first for driving laws.
- At the bottom of the list is Montana, making it the worst state for teen drivers. It comes in dead last for safety and second to last for driving laws.
