DAY ONE: Jury Selection at Taylor Swift Trial
Limited drama on the first day of the Taylor Swift trial. The two parties sat in the court room, but consciously ignored one another.
Taylor arrived with her mother, manager and publicist. She sat with her attorneys as they quizzed 60 potential jurors. Meanwhile, former radio host David Mueller kept his back turned to Taylor the entire time.
The court handed potential juror a 15-page questionnaire that asked about their taste in music, if they’d ever been fired from a job, or sexually assaulted. Even if they’d attended the June 2013 concert where the alleged butt-grabbing occurred. Maybe the most telling question was which jurors had previewed the incriminating photo at the meet & greet.
The jury selection process dragged on much longer than planned. It resumes today at 9 in the morning. The judge now hopes to find all eight jurors today ahead of opening statements. (Denver Post)
BACHELORETTE RECAP: Rachel & Bryan
Last night on the three-hour finale of The Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay picked Florida chiropractor Bryan Abasolo. They’re happily engaged. He expressed his undying love to her. (quote) “You are everything I could ever want in a women: my wife, the mother of my children.”
Leading up to that romantic moment, the show seemed to spend a long time on the runner-up. Peter Kraus had messed with Rachel's mind. Her heart belonged to Peter, but he warned, (quote) “I don’t feel like I’m ready to ask you to marry me tomorrow. I don’t want to stop being with you.”
This dramatic tension played throughout last night’s finale. Could she sway him? Would she take a chance without a ring? Or would she settle with Bryan?
Bryan increased his odds by basically promising to Rachel that they’d be engaged. All along, that’s what Rachel desired. She joined The Bachelorette to become the fiancée. (ABC News)
Biography by Anna Faris Not Delayed by Divorce
Divorce will get awkward for Chris Pratt and Anna Faris.
She’s authored a book about their time together. He wrote a "loving forward" to Unqualified (quote) "She is fierce and very loyal, she rarely punishes people. But when she does, it’s powerful and terrifying."
The book is dedicated to Pratt!
Despite their wreckage of their marriage, the publisher is pushing ahead with a release in October. The autobiography reportedly “recounts intimate stories from her life, including details about their marriage.” Yikes.
Here’s guessing she’d like to re-write a few chapters. Or at a minimum update their relationship status and delete the dedication. (New York Post)
People magazine reports Pratt seemed care-free a few weeks before the official divorce announcement (quote) “Chris seemed different, like he was free almost.”
TMZ reports the split occurred over family. She wanted more children. He didn't. Chris was constantly away making movies but she wanted him home in Los Angeles.
SINEAD O’CONNOR: Suicidal in New Jersey Motel
Sinead O’Connor is again sharing her suicidal thoughts.
The 50-year-old singer posted a “frantic video” to Facebook. Thousands have shared the video, which has been viewed nearly 700,000 times.
In the video, recorded in a motel room, her mental illness is on full display. Sinead does not look or act well. She lashes out at her estranged family. (quote) “Suddenly, all the people who are supposed to be loving you or taking care of you treat you like [crap].”
Sinead claims they abandoned her because of her three mental illnesses (quote) “I'm now living in a Travelodge hotel in the arse end of New Jersey. I'm all by myself and there's absolutely nobody in my life except my doctor, my psychiatrist. And that's kind of pathetic.”
She explains her circumstances. (quote) “People who suffer from mental illness are the most vulnerable. You’ve got to take care of us.” (NorthJersey.com)
AMY SCHUMER: Broadway Bound
Amy Schumer is set to make her Broadway debut in a play by Steve Martin.
The L.A. Times sees it as a desperate bid to save the production, which the paper says is "bordering on unfledged critical catastrophe." The Times calls the move a "stopgap solution" and describes Meteor Shower as a "zany marital comedy that chronicles one bizarre 1993 evening spent watching a meteor shower in Ojai, California."
The cast also includes Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele) and Alan Tudyk (Firefly).
Meteor Shower opens at New York City's Booth Theater on November 29th.

MILEY, LORDE: They'll Get Their MTV!
Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd will all take the stage at MTV's Video Music Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on August 27th.
The ceremony, hosted by Katy Perry, will also feature performances by Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes and rockers Thirty Seconds to Mars. MTV has tweaked the awards in a big way this year by eliminating gender categories, so that Sheeran, The Weeknd and Lorde are all in the running for the show's Artist of the Year award, while Cyrus and her hit "Malibu" compete with Fifth Harmony's "Down" for a Best Pop award.
If past years are any indication, producers will add new performers right up until showtime.
The Bachelor Has Not Been Chosen
Now that The Bachelorette has concluded, which of the losers becomes The Bachelor?
Host Chris Harrison claims ABC hasn’t made a decision. That’s why we didn’t get an announcement last night.
Harrison told Entertainment Tonight, (quote) “Dean Unglert, Peter Kraus, Eric Bigger. They’re great candidates. They'd all be great Bachelors. But in all seriousness, we've not picked a Bachelor.”
Likely, producers are gauging how viewers feel about this finale and Peter’s reluctance to commit, though the third place finisher is often the guy that gets another chance at love. That means it'll be Eric Bigger, who’s never been in a serious relationship.
