Governor To Sign Bill Raising Teacher Pay


New Mexico teachers are getting a raise.

Gov. Susana Martinez vowed on Monday to sign Senate Bill 119 into law. The legislation increases the minimum starting salary from $34,000 to $36,000 a year. 

Second and third-tier teachers will also get a boost in pay with second-tier teachers moving from $42,000 to $44,000 a year and third-tier teachers going from $52,000 to $54,000 a year.
