Being a parent is a 24-hour job, but if you get your kids to bed early enough, especially when they are little, and give yourself a chance to indulge in some quiet time, you’ll likely be a much happier parent.
New research out of Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Melbourne in Australia found that moms who put their kids to bed early are happier because they have time to focus on self-care, they have more alone time to spend with their partner, and they get better sleep -- which is extremely important in overall mood and emotional well-being.
The research examined 3600 kids for the first nine years of life and determined that moms who put their kids to bed before 8:30 p.m. had better mental health than moms of kids with later bedtimes. The study also found that kids with an early bedtime have a healthier quality of life. It’s a win-win for everyone. Happy, healthy mom means a happy, healthy household!
