STUDY: Lots of Parents Texting and Driving

Parents, put down that phone … Research from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing revealed that 50 percent of parents are guilty of talking on their phones when driving with their kids. 33 percent admit to reading text messages while behind the wheel, and 14 percent even scroll through social media while driving … with their kids in the backseat.

“Technology has become increasingly intertwined with our daily lives,” says lead author Catherine McDonald. “The results from this research reinforce that risky driving behaviors rarely occur in isolation, and lay the groundwork for interventions and education specifically aimed at parents who drive with young children in their cars.” (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia)
