Margaret Atwood Announces "Handmaid's Tale" Sequel Coming in 2019

  • Who's ready to go back to Gilead? Acclaimed Canadian author Margaret Atwood revealed Wednesday on Twitter that The Testaments, a sequel to her 1985 dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale, will be published next year. "Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale. The Testaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in September 2019," the 79-year-old Atwood tweeted. She also shared a short book trailer that features appropriately disturbing music and the words, "Everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we've been living in." Read more here
