A woman in Chicago rented 30 hotel rooms last week so that homeless people could stay warm amid the sub-zero temperatures. According to The New York Times, 34-year-old Candice Payne founds rooms available at the Amber Inn for Wednesday night at $70 a pop. After paying for the rooms on a credit card, she asked her Instagram followers about helping transport the homeless people and soon had a caravan of cars, SUVs and vans. “It was 50 below, and I knew they were going to be sleeping on ice and I had to do something,” Payne says of her decision to pay it forward. Among the people who took Payne up on her offer were a pair of pregnant women and a family of five. Payne also bought toiletries, food, prenatal vitamins, and snacks to help make the people feel comfortable, while a handful of local restaurants donated food.
