Ladies, you may want to step away from diet soda and drinks after hearing this.
Diet drinks are being linked to a higher risk of stroke among post-menopausal women. The study said post-menopausal women who drink two or more drinks a day that have artificial sweeteners were 23-percent more likely to have a stroke and 31-percent more likely to get heart disease, compared to women who drank less than one diet soda per week. For obese and African American women, the risk was doubled.
The study is in the journal "Stroke." Its authors caution that it doesn't prove cause and effect.
