For many, it was a jolt…and had them heading for the “hills” of Twitter with the hashtag ‘Facebook Down.’ And if it seemed like forever, you’re right – it’s believed to be longest outage ever faced by the platform.
While service to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has been restored, the Internet has been shaking with the question of what went wrong. The short answer? They don’t know. Facebook says the company was not the victim of a hack attack, but it's aware of problems with users trying to access their accounts.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors in New York are launching with other tech companies. A grand jury has subpoenaed records from two top tech companies, who entered into partnerships with Facebook to get access to the personal information of hundreds of millions of its users. It is unclear what the criminal investigation is focusing on.
