Baking Is as Good as Meditating

The holidays can be stressful, which means it’s even more important to find a way to relieve that extra anxiety and tension. If finding time to work out, take a yoga class, or even meditate is impossible, consider baking up an extra batch of holiday cookies instead.

Apparently, baking requires you to focus on the task at hand and be in the moment -- much like mindfulness meditation. According to Donna Pincus, associate professor of psychological and brain sciences at Boston University, the focus and being in the present that is required for baking has similar stress relieving psychological benefits to meditation.

That means you can lower your stress and anxiety … while simultaneously taking care of one of your holiday tasks. And you get delicious sweet treats out of the deal! (Southern Living)
