A Michigan man is proving there are still honest people out there who do the right thing.Howard Kirby recently bought some furniture from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and found $43,170 inside the couch. And he returned the money to the family who donated the couch.
Kirby says he noticed that the foot cushion “always seemed kind of hard” so his daughter-in-law opened the cushion and found all that cash inside. He says he contacted a lawyer to see if he had he had legal right to keep the money and even though he apparently did, he decided to give the money back to the family it belonged to.
The furniture had been their recently-passed grandfather’s and they had no idea the cash was there. They were thankful and Kirby feels good for doing the right thing. “It belonged to them,” he says, “and I’m glad I was able to give it back to them.”
