A Kentucky mom of two who works a full-time while raising her young sons has written a post about her work-life balance and any mom who’s ever felt judged at work because of family commitments will be able to relate.Jamie Johnson, the blogger behind Hashtag MomFail, wrote an open letter on the disapproval she senses from people in her office and the things she’s dealing with at home that people at work probably aren’t aware of.
“Please stop judging me for leaving the office at exactly 5 pm, but my kids are waiting to be picked up from the sitter,” Johnson write. “I know I’m missing this meeting, but my kid’s preschool graduation is more important. I know I was late today, but I can’t drop the baby off at daycare until 7:45 am.”
She goes on to explain that while she knows she’s being judged, she also feels guilty for not being able to leave her personal life at the door when she comes to work, but it’s hard with two small kids. Johnson alsothanks“every boss who has let me leave for doctor’s appointments, unexpected sicknesses, and preschool graduations” and she thanks coworkers who “picked up slack” when she had to run to “solve a kid emergency.” She ends with sweet words of encouragement for other moms, telling them they don’t have to choose between two worlds they love. “You can have a family and a career,” she notes. “It’s not easy, but it is possible. So don’t stop. Don’t give up. You’ve got this.”
