Supplies Parents Should Get To Prepare For Coronavirus-No Panic Required!

Now that cases of the coronavirus are appearing in the U.S., CDC officials warn that we may experience significant disruptions to daily life. There’s still no need to panic, but it’s always good to be prepared. And for parents, that means doing some just-in-case shopping. These are the things you’ll be glad to have at home if you or your family gets sick.

  • Hand soap- Washing hands regularly is the best way to prevent the virus from spreading, theCDC recommendsdoing it for at least 20-seconds with soap and water.
  • Canned goods in water- Load up on cans of black beans, pinto beans, tuna, tomatoes and such and get the ones in water, so the liquid can be used to rehydrate dried goods in a pinch.
  • Dried goods- Things like rice, lentils, oats, and pasta last forever in the pantry. Same with nuts.
  • A few bottles of bleach- For disinfecting surfaces around the house.
  • Cold medicine/prescriptions- Get whatever your go-to cold and cough medicines are and you may want to get an additional month of meds if you or your kid is on a prescription to save the hassle of getting to the pharmacy later, just in case.
  • Frozen fruit and veggies- They’re nearly as nutritious as fresh produce, but last a lot longer.
  • Baby food/formula/diapers- Even if you don’t need it now, you’ll use it eventually.
  • Tissues- Stock up on extra boxes and treat yourself to the good ones.
  • Paper towels/toilet paper- Get enough to last 30 days, they’re necessities and you’re going to use them.
  • Screen disinfectant- The CDC advises regularly cleaning“high-touch” surfaces, which includes phones, tablets, remotes, and screens. Rubbing alcohol, window cleaner, dish soap, vinegar, and disinfectant wipes could damage surfaces, so stick with approved screen-cleaning products.
  • Laundry detergent and dish soap- You’ll still need to wash clothes, dishes, and sippy cups, so load up now.
