RELATIONSHIPS: Working From Home ... Together

Lots of people will be working from home in the coming weeks. For many couples that means navigating being together all the time. So, how do you maintain a happy relationship when you are both working from home and everyone is already stressed out?

According to relationship experts, here’s how you can successfully work and live in the same space as your partner without killing each other:

Set boundaries in advance: If you like to listen to music while you work but your partner prefers silence, you need to discuss this stuff. Headphones are vital when you are both working together, and open communication is essential. Coordinate schedules at the beginning of the day so your partner doesn’t decide to make a sandwich during your virtual meeting.

Designate private work areas: Not everyone is lucky enough to have a lot of space to escape to. If you need to, trade off rooms depending on who needs more privacy day to day.

Don’t take out work stress on your partner: It’s easier said than done, especially when you aren’t used to working remotely. Make a conscious effort and be willing to apologize.

Have some fun too: Set lunch dates or afternoon coffee dates in the kitchen and enjoy the extra time you get to spend with your favorite person. (Glamour)
