Nursing home residents aren’t just at high risk for contracting coronavirus ... due to safety quarantines, many elderly people are suffering because they are lonely. When you can’t visit friends you are quarantined with and none of your family and friends can come visit you, the days get very long and lonely. Well,CHD Living, a nursing home provider in England, has the perfect solution. They’ve started the virtual “Adopt a Grandparent” program, which allows volunteers to connect with residents and become friends.
According to the program website, “This campaign is designed to bring a sense of comfort to young people and the elderly who may not have grandparents/grandchildren of their own, with the aim to create invaluable, lifelong friendships.”
It’s obviously more important now than ever -- with many people feeling isolated from the outside world. If you’re interested in the program, it’s easy to apply to be a volunteer online. You simply answer a few questions, and based on similar interests, you are connected with a new senior friend. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to apply -- and there aren’t any restrictions on where you live to connect. Check out @CHDLiving on Instagram for more info. (House Beautiful)
