WHO Admits "Emerging Evidence" That COVID-19 Is Airborne

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization admitted to "emerging evidence" showing airborne spread of the novel coronavirus, according to NBC News. A number of scientists have written to the WHO asking them to update their guidance on the virus with aerosol transmission in mind. Dr. Benedetta Allegranzi said, "We have to be open to this [emerging] evidence and understand its implications." Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO's technical lead on COVID-19, said they have been working for several weeks on a scientific brief about their findings that should be released soon. The New York Times shared recommendations from doctors about how to prevent exposure to aerosolized particles. They recommend wearing a mask while outside. When inside, opening windows and doors when possible is a smart idea. Public indoor spaces can explore ultraviolet lights and air purifiers which could kill the virus. Generally, doctors recommend minimizing the amount of time spent indoors without a mask; the longer a person is inside, the more of the virus they could inhale.
