Whale Who Carried Dead Calf for 17 Days Is Pregnant Again

An orca whale known as Tahlequah, who made heartbreaking headlines two years ago for carrying her dead calf for 17 days and more than 1,000 miles through Puget Sound, is pregnant again.The Seattle Times reports that while such pregnancies are not unusual, "Tahlequah’s pregnancy carries special meaning for a region that grieved the death of her calf with her." The current population of southern resident orcas is just 72, and about two-thirds of all pregnancies are typically lost.
