How to Donate Your Garden's Surplus Fruits & Veggies to Your Food Pantry

The harvest season is upon us, which means that if you're growing any fruits or vegetables in your garden, they're likely ripening right about now. If you have more food than you can possibly eat yourself, and if you want to help out those in need, consider donating your surplus produce to a local food bank. Lifehacker reports that even though food banks usually collect dry foods and canned goods, many of them also accept fresh foods. Just go to the website for Ample Harvest, a nonprofit that has a list of local food banks that allow produce donations. They suggest selecting only foods that are close to ripening, harvesting them in the morning, washing them thoroughly, and placing them in brown paper bags. Find out more here
