Rescue Dog Who Lost Her Puppies Adopts Trio of Orphaned Kittens

A mama dog got a new lease on life after she lost her puppies--but wound up "adopting" a new brood of kittens. An Arizona-based rescue group reports that Georgia, an Australian Shepherd Mix, was found living at a gas station near the U.S.-Mexico border, where she prematurely delivered a litter of puppies that did not survive. “She was frantic,” says Sunshine Dog Rescue founder Anita Osa. "She was looking for those babies. She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies.” So the group put out a call on social media in search of any abandoned furry babies who needed a lactating mom. What they got was three kittens, and Osa says she was surprised to find that the "adoption" went off without a hitch. "I introduced them to her gently... It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down,” she recalls. “It’s really something to see. She protects those kittens just as if they were her babies.” She adds, "I think for the kittens, they have no idea that Georgia is a dog." Read the full story here
