It may be fall, but if you have a job interview coming up – in-person or virtually -- don’t wear orange. According to a survey of hiring professionals, orange is the absolute worst color, because it immediately makes you look unprofessional.
When in doubt, choose blue or black. Both of these staple colors are associated with leadership and being a team player. The employers surveyed said that, overall, neutral colors were the best choices for a job interview, because they convey a sense of professionalism.
Here’s what other clothing color choices tell potential employers and work colleagues:
- Gray: You’re logical and analytical.
- White: You’re organized.
- Red: Always seen as a power color.
- Brown: You’re dependable.
- Green, yellow, purple: You’re creative. (The Ladders)
