Yelp Now Lets Customers Give Feedback About Safety Protocols

These days whether a restaurant has good food isn’t the only factor when trying to pick a place to eat. A lot of folks won’t consider frequenting a restaurant or business unless they know they're following safety protocols for COVID-19, and now Yelp has made it easier to find out which businesses are doing that.

The review site just added a new feature, which enables customers to let others know whether or not a business is implementing safety protocols. While reviewers can’t go into detail about what is and isn’t being done, they can comment on whether a place is consistently enforcing social distancing, and whether employees are wearing masks. The info is displayed under “Health & Safety Measures” in the COVID-19 section, and the feedback will only be displayed if there is a consensus among several logged in Yelp users. Plus, only responses received within 28 days will be counted.

Businesses that earn the positive feedback will get a green check mark, along with comments like "Social distancing enforced according to most users" or "Staff wears masks according to most users." If the consensus says a place doesn’t follow protocols, the business will earn an orange question mark, with notes like "Social distancing might not be enforced according to most users" or "Staff might not wear masks according to most users."
