You may want to skip the hand dryers in public bathrooms.
A new study suggests that using high-speed hand dryers in public bathrooms can undo the health benefits of washing your hands. The study published yesterday reported hand dryers can suck in fecal bacteria and blow it all over your hands and clothes.
An experiment found that levels of germs spread to surfaces touched by study volunteers were ten times higher when they dried their hands with a dryer than when they used paper towels. More bacteria also were transferred to aprons the volunteers wore.
The study is published in "Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology."
