The First Child Tax Credit Payments Have Been Sent Out

The first payment from the expanded child tax credit will be sent to 39 million households with around 65 million children on July 15th. Homes receiving the full benefit will receive 6 monthly payments of $300 per under the age of 6 and $250 per child between 6 and 17. Married couples with children who file taxes jointly and have adjusted gross income less than $150,000, or individuals earning $75,000 or less are eligible for the full benefit. Most families won't have to do anything to receive the benefit; the IRS is basing payments off of 2020 tax returns. If you didn't file taxes but used the IRS' non-filer tool to register for stimulus payments, your household, if qualified, will be automatically enrolled in the child tax credit plan. Most of the payments will be sent via direct deposit. Read more here https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/07/13/will-your-family-get-300-monthly-child-tax-payments-what-you-need-to-know/
