Supply Chain Issues Have Created An Alcohol Shortage As Holidays Approach


Disruptions related to the pandemic have been affecting the global supply chain. There's been gridlock at the Port of Los Angeles, where shipping containers holding products like toys and sneakers have been stuck offshore. CNN is reporting that alcohol is among those products affected. Experts said there are several factors contributing to the alcohol shortage, including transportation. David Ozgo, chief economist with the Distilled Spirits Council had this to say: "Clearly, right now there’s a shortage of containers. Space on container ships is very, very short. That’s a problem for an industry that imports 40% of its products." A shortage of supply chain workers also isn't helping. Time to stock up for the holidays as bottles of everything from champagne to whiskey to tequila are flying off the shelves.
