New Mexico is encouraging people to get their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
People can still receive their second Pfizer vaccine if they missed the 21-to-42-day window or the 28-to-42-day window for the Moderna vaccine.
"It's not going to negatively affect your ability to be able to get the full effect of the vaccine. It's just that those time spans that I quoted for you for Pfizer and Moderna is what is currently the federally approved guidelines for the moment," said David Morgan, spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Health.
The state is tracking the number of people who have missed their second vaccine.
So far, 5.2% of New Mexicans who received their first COVID-19 vaccine did not go back for their second shot.
