SIMONE BILES: Withdraws From All-Around Competition

Simone Biles will not defend her Olympic title in the Gymnastics all-around competition.

Gymnasts on social media speculate that Biles suffers from “the twisties,” a slang term for when the internal human gyroscope goes haywire making gymnasts lose their bearings while flying through the air.

This morning,USA Gymnastics said, “After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition. We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many.”

Jade Carey will replace Biles and represent the United States along with Sunisa Lee in the all-around competition on Thursday. Their cumulative score in four disciplines determines the medalists.

Simone Biles may still compete in individual events. She will decide after undergoing a second medical evaluation. (NBC Sports)
