Pantone Reveals “Very Peri” Color Of Year For 2022

We’ve lived through quite a transformation in 2021, with coming out of COVID quarantine, returning to work and resuming our daily lives. And Pantone has chosen their new color of the year to represent just that. The Pantone Color Institute has revealed their 2021 color of the year is “Very Peri.” The shade is a periwinkle blue with violet-red undertones and they say it’s supposed to symbolize the “transition we are going through.”

Since 2000, the color experts at Pantone have analyzed color trends and taken inspiration from lifestyle influences including entertainment, art, design and fashion to come up with a color that reflects these trends. For the first time in the 22 years they’ve been naming a color of the year, Pantone has created a brand new color for the occasion. And the company says Very Peri was designed with “the screens of our digital world in mind.”

Why not just use an existing color like they have in the past?Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute says creating a new one “reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place.” Very Peri is described as a “dynamic periwinkle blue with a vivifying violet-red undertone that blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red.”
