While many of us are excited for winter to officially become spring, when it comes to changing our clocks – as we’re set to do tomorrow night at 2am – not so much. And while states can move to permanent standard time without federal approval, congressional action is required to stay on daylight saving time.
And now, courtesy of the Sunshine Protection Act, which is sponsored by Sen. Patty Murray of Washington and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, states would be allowed to adopt permanent daylight saving time (after amending the Uniform Time Act of 1966).
“Americans are about to suffer yet another ridiculous time change as we now Spring Forward this weekend,” Rubio says in a statement. “Switching in and out of Daylight Saving Time is outdated, and it's only a source of annoyance and confusion. Frankly, it's just dumb, and there's just no other way to say it. As a country, we've dealt with this policy for far too long.”
