The Worm Moon Is Coming

The upcoming full moon this Friday has a unique name along with a sign of warming temperatures. The first full moon of March signals Spring.

The worm moon was given its name by Native American tribes in the south, who may have noticed the “earthworm casts that appear as the ground thaws.” Another explanation suggests that the “worms” were actually beetle larvae that emerged from their cold-weather shelters at the end of winter, and “worm moon” is a misnomer used by European colonists.
