Are You A FOMO Person Or A JOMO Person?

We’ve all heard of FOMO – Fear of Missing Out – but there’s another acronym that you may not have heard of – yet lots of folks adhere to. It’s JOMO – or Joy of Missing Out. These are the people who are not worried about missing out on the latest event or party – but are happy to be skipping social gatherings altogether. But according to researchers from Washington State University, JOMO may be less about preferring calm, quiet nights at home – and more about social anxiety. According to lead author and psychology professor Christ Barry, “When trying to assess JOMO, we found that some people were enjoying missing out, not for the solitude or a Zen-like, calming experience of being able to regroup, but more to avoid social interaction.”
