Social media like TikTok may not have been primarily designed for spreading news, but that's what it's become over time. Big news stories as well as hyper-focused situations (like Tattoogate) could all be made into TikToks that rack up millions of views.
According to a study from the Pew Research Center, 25% of Americans under the age of 30 say they "regularly" get their news from TikTok. Older generations are much less likely to do this -- only 10% in the 30-49 age group said they got their news from social media.
