Semaglutide, the active compound in popular diabetes/weight-loss injections Ozempic and Wegovy, may soon be made available in a pill. Two new studies were unveiled at the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions conference on Sunday (June 25) that examined the effectiveness of the semaglutide pill. The studies found a 50-milligram pill of semaglutide taken orally every day had a similar weight loss effect as the weekly Wegovy injections that contain 2.4 milligrams of semaglutide. Since the oral pill contains significantly more semaglutide than the injection, this means there are more side effects, which include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and constipation. A semaglutide pill sold under the name Rybelsus already exists, but it is strictly prescribed to adults with Type 2 diabetes. Rybelsus also only contains 14 milligrams of semaglutide and is less effective with weight loss compared to Ozempic and Wegovy. It is not known when the higher-dose semaglutide pill will hit the market. Read more here https://www.mynbc5.com/article/daily-pill-may-work-as-well-as-wegovy-shots-to-treat-obesity/44346365
