Where do people get the most excited for Halloween? A new report from ConsumerAffairs reveals the states that are most obsessed with the holiday. While you can celebrate Halloween everywhere, some places really go all out for All Hallows Eve and this “Terror Tally” tells us where they are.

  • The ConsumerAffairs research team rated the states on 10 metrics related to Halloween.
  • Halloween-related local attractions, including haunted attractions per capita, number of pumpkin patches and Spirit Halloween stores, make up 60% of the score.
  • YouTube searches for Halloween music are 15% of the score and Google Trends searches related to Halloween count for 25%, and the total gives us the Terror Tally for each state.
  • New Hampshire tops the list as the most Halloween-obsessed state, thanks to its huge number of corn mazes, 29 pumpkin patches, 12 haunted attractions, and the most Spirit Halloween costume stores per capita (16).
  • Maine comes in second, it has the most pumpkin patches per capita with 59 and has the most online searches for Halloween crafts.
  • Utah, third overall, has more Google searches for “Halloween movies” than any other state.
  • On the flip side, the least festive state for Halloween is Mississippi, followed by California and Washington.
