Plenty of Americans feel proud of the state they live in, but which state is really the best? New research from “U.S. News & World Report” has an answer.

  • The magazine just came out with their annual Best States in America report.
  • They compared all 50 states using more than 70 metrics in eight main categories: health care, education, the economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and natural environment.
  • For the second year in a row, Utah tops the list as the Best State, coming in second for education, third for both its economy and infrastructure, and sixth for fiscal stability.
  • Hawaii, 34th overall, is number one for both health care and natural environment, while Florida, ninth overall, is first for education and economy.
  • New Hampshire, number two overall, is first for crime & corrections, while Vermont, seventh overall, is number one for opportunity.
  • Wyoming, 12th overall, tops the list for fiscal stability, and North Dakota, 15th overall, is number one for infrastructure.
