What’s your favorite seat on a flight? Sometimes we have no choice about where we end up on a flight, but new research suggests a lot of people would go for the same seat, given the option.
Travel site Upgraded Points recently polled 3,142 U.S. travelers to find out the most sought-after seats on an airplane, as well as other flight preferences and pet peeves.
- According to the survey, the most in-demand seat is 1A, a first-class bulkhead window seat.
- That’s really not all that surprising since it comes with “ample legroom, easy restroom access, a window view and the perk of being one of the first on and off the plane,” Upgraded Points reports.
- Seats 7A and 7F are a close second and third, as these coach seats also offer plenty of legroom and are window seats.
- Overall, the survey finds that two-thirds (66.6%) of people prefer a window seat, compared to 31.7% who like an aisle seat and just 1.7% who go for the middle seat.
- When it comes to exit rows, 41% of respondents say they’re “willing to accept the added responsibility of sitting in an exit row for the extra legroom and the peace of mind from being near
- a quick exit in case of an emergency.”
- But legroom isn’t the only thing people consider when selecting a seat, as 41% say their safety is a factor and 66% believe the middle seat is the safest and experiences the least turbulence.
- Overall, 60% of travelers would be willing to pay to be able to choose their seat in advance and they’d pay an average of $33.59 for the perk.
