Whether you just don’t feel like cooking or you have to work or you find yourself without an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a holiday meal. You can create a feast for one made with fast food menu items that are available year-round, so you could satisfy your craving for the meal any time it strikes.
The downside is that you’ll need to go to six different fast food restaurants to get all the elements of the Thanksgiving dinner. Here’s how to put together this turkey-centered dinner, with four sides and pie, too.
- Chick-fil-A has the leafy greens portion of the meal covered - It’s tough to find green beans at a fast food chain, but a good swap to lighten up all the carb-heavy sides in a traditional turkey dinner is a side kale salad from Chick-fil-A. It’s made with kale and cabbage and has an acidic apple cider and dijon vinaigrette dressing.
- Mashed potatoes and gravy from Popeyes - Their gravy has little bits of meat in it and their mashed potatoes have a homestyle feel that’s perfect for this Thanksgiving fast food dinner.
- Mac and cheese from Potbelly - Several fast food chains have mac and cheese, including Popeyes, KFC, Chick-fil-A and Panera, but the one from Potbelly is the top choice. It’s made with a three-cheese sauce and elbow macaroni and you can even upgrade it by adding veggies, bacon, or even more cheese.
- Corn from KFC - It’s a simple side of sweet corn, with nothing else in it, and that’s what makes it the ideal side for this fast food Thanksgiving feast.
- For the star of the meal, Jimmy John’s Turkey Tom sub - A sandwich may seem controversial for a holiday dinner centerpiece, but there aren’t a lot of turkey options in fast food. The simplicity of this sub, made with turkey, lettuce, tomato and mayo on French bread, makes it appealing.
- And what’s a Thanksgiving feast without pie for dessert? A classic apple pie from McDonald’s is the way to go here, even if pumpkin pie is the more traditional choice. But if you want pumpkin, Arby’s offers a limited-time Pumpkin Pie Turnover and Church’s has a Pumpkin Cheesecake Fried Pie, they’re just not available year-round.
