Life can be stressful and we don’t always get as much sleep as we need, but there’s one thing that makes all of that a little easier to deal with - coffee. The buzzy beverage is an essential part of the morning routine for many of us, as 66% of American adults drink coffee every day, according to new research from the National Coffee Association.
Their Spring 2025 National Coffee Data Trends report has just come out, giving us a peek at how much of it we drink and how we like it best.
- Coffee is America’s favorite beverage, with two-thirds drinking it daily, that’s more than bottled water (64%), tea (44%), soda (43%) and juice (25%).
- American coffee drinkers consume an average of three cups a day.
- Overall, American adults drink around 516-million cups of coffee daily, which is enough to fill an Olympic-size swimming pool more than 48 times.
- While the lines at Starbucks are always long, home is the most popular place to get coffee.
- Nearly three-quarters (71%) of those who drink coffee regularly only make it at home. Another 13% have it both at home or out, while 16% don’t ever make coffee at home and only get it out.
- When it comes to buying coffee, 40% purchase theirs at a grocery store, 29% buy from big box stores (like Target or Walmart), 10% do their coffee shopping in a club store (like Costco), and 5% buy from a coffee shop.
- So, what’s our favorite way to make it? Drip coffee makers are the most common method, with 62% of Americans using one at home. Single-cup brewers are second (42%), followed by instant coffee (35%), then bean-to-cup machines (15%).
- A French press is the preferred method for 12%, while 11% have a slow-drip cold brew setup and 6% use a pour-over coffee maker.
- More than a quarter (28%) of people get their daily caffeine fix from “specialty coffee,” which includes espressos (18%), cappuccinos (17%), lattes (17%), Americanos (11%) and macchiatos (9%).
- The most popular non-espresso coffee drink is cold brew coffee (18%), followed by frozen blended coffee (16%) and nitro coffee (5%).
