Most Americans Rate 2025 A Year Of “Meh”

How was your 2025? If you had to give last year a score, would it be high or low? That’s what a new survey asked 2-thousand Americans to do and based on the rating, it was a “meh” year overall.

According to the poll, 2025 was only an average year for most respondents personally, as 5.3 out of 10 was the average.

  • But for a quarter of people (25%), it was a bad 12 months, they gave it scores of just one, two, or three.
  • And for 21%, it was a very good year personally, as they scored it an eight, nine, or 10.
  • Gen X scored 2025 the lowest, 5.1 on average, while millennials rated it only slightly higher at 5.3.
  • Gen Z and baby boomers rank it slightly more positively, a 5.4 out of 10, on average.
  • The survey confirms that 2025 was worse than 2024, which scored a 6.1 overall in last year's survey.
  • While the year may not have been stellar overall for most folks, the majority of Americans feel they grew as a person.
  • More than two-thirds (69%) believe they developed over the last 12 months in some way.
  • Improvements in personal life (59%) and development in mental and emotional life (49%) were the most common growth areas.
  • Others report continuing spiritual growth (45%) and intellectual growth (33%) as their achievements of 2025.
  • Younger Americans were more likely to say they experienced growth in 2025, as 75% of Gen Z says they grew as a person in some way, compared to 59% of baby boomers.
  • Baby boomers were most likely to report developing spiritually and enhancing their physical health and fitness last year and millennials were most likely to say they developed professionally, creatively and artistically.⠀
