Receipt From 2006 Reveals How Much Grocery Prices Spiked In 20 Years

We’re getting so used to the high cost of groceries today that it’s easy to forget how cheap things used to be, but a post on X is revealing the shocking difference 20 years makes in prices. A woman recently shared a 2006 receipt from Walmart that she found while going through her mom’s old stuff and it shows 79 items were purchased for just $161.87.

The receipt is like a grocery shopping time capsule, since today that same shopping list could end up costing well over $400, depending on sales and brand choices. The post has gone viral with more than 12-million views and thousands of comments, many who can’t believe the price increases in the last two decades.
