Surgeon General Warns Social Media is Driving Teen Mental Health Crisis

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has warned that social media is a main contributor to mental health issues in American teens.

Murthy wants lawmakers to require social media companies to share some of the burden of managing teens' social media use, rather than leaving that burden solely to the parents.

The Surgeon General wants safety standards to keep teens away from harmful content and excessive use after a report reveals that teens who spent more than three hours a day on social media "faced double the risk of experiencing poor mental health outcomes, including symptoms of depression and anxiety."

95% of American teens say they are on social media and a third of those teens say they scroll "constantly'.
